Clothes For Cancer:
What to Wear on Your Journey
A cancer diagnosis comes with countless changes — emotionally, physically, and practically. As you prepare for treatment, whether it’s chemotherapy or radiation, even something as simple as getting dressed can take on new meaning.
For some, clothing is a way to hold on to identity — to look and feel like themselves, even in the midst of cancer. For others, it’s all about comfort and simplicity — finding easy, cozy outfits that make the day just a little bit easier.
So what do you wear to chemo? What feels best when you’re navigating radiation treatments? The answers vary, but one thing is clear: having the right wardrobe can make a real difference.
From comfy clothes for cancer patients to specially designed chemo clothing for women and men, there are many options that prioritize comfort, accessibility, and dignity. Adaptive clothing for cancer patients offers features like hidden openings, easy closures, and soft, breathable fabrics — perfect for long infusion days or sensitive skin.
Whether you’re looking for style, function, or both, the right clothes for cancer patients can help you face each day with a little more confidence and ease. Some survivors shared wisdom with us.
Survivor Christine Handy on Comfy Cancer Clothes
I was diagnosed at the age of 41 with an aggressive form of breast cancer. I went on to have 28 rounds of chemotherapy and over 10 surgeries. The greatest support I felt were women who showed up for my many seasons of illness. They taught me what true love looked like. It isn’t transactional. Helping others is a privilege not a burden. I was very uncomfortable during treatment because I also had a cast on my right arm for months because of another illness unrelated to cancer. I chose comfort over design during cancer. I wore the softest tee shirts and baggy everything. It’s the one time in my life that I allowed baggy clothes. As a model who has been in the industry for 4 decades, I wasn’t used to comfy clothes. Since then, I allow myself to feel comfort over any societal pressure to look any way other than comfortable and happy. Lastly, choosing you means choosing clothes that work, not clothes that others think you should wear. You can follow her and her journey on Instagram at @christinehandy1

Soft zip-up sweatshirts or hoodies – Easy to wear during chemo or hospital visits, especially for IV access and temperature control.
Head covers like turbans, beanies, or scarves – I loved using colorful and breathable options to express my mood.
Loose cotton pants or joggers – For days when comfort was key but I still wanted to feel put together.
Warm shawls or oversized cardigans – Like a hug you can wear! They made me feel safe, especially in cold hospital settings
